What is Manual Osteopathic Physiotherapy - MOPT

MOPT consists of Manual Therapy (MT), Osteopathic Therapy (OT) and Physiotherapy (PT). The MOPT, like the individual forms of therapy, is about the recovery and health maintenance of people. The more “tools” a therapist has at his disposal, the more varied the therapeutic care can be designed. There is no hierarchy of therapy forms, but rather an interlocking of sensible manual techniques, applications and exercises.

The care begins with a thorough anamnesis and a holistic examination of the human organism. From this it can be derived whether, for example, local treatment of disturbed joint movements with manual therapy, activation of muscles with physiotherapy or gliding mobilization of internal organs with osteopathic therapy is necessary in order to offer the body the best possible support for recovery. It can also make sense to first use passive applications to reduce pain and then later to achieve improved stability through exercise treatment. Many treatment examples can be given for this, but it is important to consider the individuality of the treatment.

Limits and Opportunities of the MOPT

The MOPT can alleviate or help to eliminate various pain conditions, movement and posture disorders as well as functional disorders of internal organs. However, like any alternative healing therapy, it has its limitations. That is why cooperation with your treating doctor is sensible and desirable. For example, tumor diseases, acute infections and infectious diseases, acute accidents and other life-threatening conditions as well as mental illnesses cannot be treated with the MOPT. Nevertheless, in many cases the MOPT can be used as a supplement to conventional medical treatment.
