What is Osteopathic Therapy (OT)

OT/Osteopathy is a form of medicine and in Germany may only be used by doctors and non-medical practitioners. In OT, the therapist uses his hands to examine and treat the human organism on all levels (nervous system, musculoskeletal system, internal organs, sensory organs, fascia...). The therapist assesses the tissue in the entire body for mobility and tension. Detected functional disorders are treated by manual techniques on the tissue. The aim is to enable the human being in its entirety body, mind and soul to self-regulate and to accompany it into a healthy dynamic balance (allostasis). In contrast to classic manual therapy, OT is characterized by a holistic and systematic orientation.

Definition of Osteopathy according to WHO

Osteopathy is a system of medicine that emphasizes the theory that the body can make its own remedies, given normal structural relationships, environmental conditions, and nutrition. It differs from allopathy primarily in its greater attention to body mechanics and manipulative methods in diagnosis and therapy.”
